BCAA is an acronym which stands for Branch Chain Amino Acids. These Amino Acids are building blocks of proteins. Proteins, of course, are one of the main components for rebuilding and providing energy to your muscles.

So, why are they important?

BCAAs are “easy protein”

In order for your body to utilize the protein you consume in say, a piece of chicken, it has to break it down to its individual parts, or its branch chains. Then, once broken down, these amino acids go to work building muscle. Needless to say, this process is difficult and results in protein loss.

BCAAs, since they already exist in their individual parts, are much easier for the body to utilize.

In one study conducted, a group of testers were given BCAAs to drink after workout, compared to a group that was given a placebo. Those who were given the BCAAs developed 22% more muscle, on average, than the group who was given the placebo. A substantial difference.

Muscles, in many active people, recover just 48 hours after exercise. Consuming BCAAs ensures that this process happens quickly and efficiently. Aiding in your recovery can mean increased activity in the future, decreased muscle soreness, and increased muscular energy.
