The world is slowly waking up to the fact that all the nutrients our bodies need to function at their best can be found in plants. Although the human race has eaten meat for hundreds of thousands of years, we’ve finally reached a point in science where we understand how to gain all the important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from alternative sources. At Rain, we use plant-based proteins in our products to ensure that every product we produce does as much good for the world as it does for you.

What are proteins?

Proteins are compounds, created from amino acids. Amino acids are organic compounds that bond together inside proteins in order to form links, or chains. Proteins themselves are complex molecules that do a lot more than we give them credit for. Our society glorifies proteins for the role they play in helping us build muscle and get fit. However, proteins are responsible for so much more, as “they do most of the work in cells and are required for the structure, function, and regulation of the body's tissues and organs.”

Plant-based diets are not just a clever alternative, they’re quite literally a healthier and more efficient way to live overall.

Which Plants contain Protein?

Beans - Many beans can be a rich source of protein. Chickpeas, edamame beans, lentils, and white beans, just to name a few, all contain around 15 grams a cup.

Nuts - Peanuts can hold around 40 grams per cup, while almonds can contain around 30. All nuts contain protein at varying levels.

Tofu - This eastern classic can contain up to 20 grams per cup.

Quinoa - Quinoa is a fantastic protein source that has recently gained a lot of popularity for its similarity to rice. It’s often used in stir-fry dishes. It can contain around 8 grams of. protein per cup.

Tempeh - Contains around 30 grams of protein per cup.

Mycoprotein - This is a fungus-based protein, that has around 25 grams of protein per cup.

Hemp Seeds - About 5 grams of protein per tablespoon. Yet another useful feature of hemp.

Potatoes - An average-sized potato usually holds about 8 grams of protein.

Seitan - Seitan is made from gluten, and at around 35 grams of protein per cup, it’s one of the richest sources of plant-based protein.

Peas – Peas are not just a great source of natural protein, but they also fuel and power FORM, our plant-based protein supplement.

Why plant-based protein?

The health benefits are endless, but there three main benefits to going plant-based.

  1. Feel better - Unhealthy meat consumption slows us down. Fatty, greasy, processed foods leave us feeling groggy and lower or energy levels. Plant-based diets keep us alert, active, and feeling our best.
  2. Look better - Fatty foods make fatty people. Greasy foods clog our pores, creating a nightmare for our skin. Pollutants from processed foods make our bodies age faster. Plant based diets help our bodies grow to their ideal weight, keep our skin clear, and help us retain our youth.  
  3. Live better -  Excessive meat consumption has been shown to lead to cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. At Rain, we recognize that a large portion of diet-related illnesses can be improved as we upgrade our diet by taking advantage of the incredible plants nature has provided for us.
