Take a look at our articles

Our lives are already complicated enough. So, let’s not complicate it more by adding unnecessary, hard-to-follow diets, workouts, and lifestyle changes.

Here are five, simple (and Rain-Approved) lifestyle changes you can make easily that, if applied, are proven to increase longevity, wellbeing, and overall health.

STOP OVEREATING

It’s almost too easy to overeat, especially with our Americanized diets. Processed snacks, deep-fried foods, and on-the-go meals are often the culprit that make overeating second nature to us.

Understand that overeating doesn’t always mean eating a lot. One, deep-fried chicken sandwich meal can get you halfway to your daily, caloric limit. And you may not even feel full afterward! Weight loss and weight maintenance functions through one, simple rule: calories in/calories out. If you consume, on a daily basis, more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. Doing this daily can lead to obesity and other, unwelcome health complications.

If we understand what foods are enormous calorie sources and substitute those for healthier options, we can go a long way to decrease our calories in. But, instead of focusing on what you shouldn’t eat, focus on what you should eat…

START EATING HEALTHIER/ADD ANTIOXIDANTS

If we begin to fill our diets with leafy greens, other vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains, we’ll start to wonder where the unhealthy food can fit in. A famous dietician said “if we focus on what we should eat, rather than what we shouldn’t, we’ll make enormous strides in improving our diets.” This is not only true, but functions as a simple guide to eating.

Additionally, including antioxidants in your diet does wonders for protecting your cells, DNA, and organs. Giving your body the power to combat environmental threats is crucial to your overall wellbeing. (Include SOUL, SOUL Red, CORE, or BEND and other fruits and vegetables).

STAY HYDRATED

Too many of us don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. Drink about 12-16 cups (women on the lower end, men on the higher end). If you’re active, you may want to increase that amount. Drink a lot of water when you wake up. Supplement your activity with drinks that have electrolytes (without all the sugar) to replenish and refuel. YOU SHOULD BE URINATING PRETTY OFTEN!

DO CARDIO

Experts say about 150 minutes of moderate-level cardio, each week, is crucial for maintaining a healthy heart and a healthy weight level. There’s a reason most people try to get the 10,000 steps in each day! Walk on an incline, jump on the elliptical, walk on the Stair-master, or jog a couple of miles. You’ll feel incredible if you make this a consistent part of your life.

GET ADEQUATE SLEEP

We all need to sleep better. And more. Do you know most professional-level athletes try to get 12 hours of sleep each night? Now, us normal people can’t really afford to get that much sleep. And, to be honest, we don’t need it. But, the truth remains: adequate sleep leads to better recovery and performance.

Begin to schedule your life around a good night’s rest. Rid yourself of devices. Put your computer down. Find a way to unwind, and get your 8 hours. Everything changes with adequate sleep!

So, are you ready to change your life? Make these simple changes and feel the enormous difference.
